Lochranza / Isle of Arran

The image below is of the road leading down through Glen Chalmadale into Lochranza village on the north side of the Island of Arran, 14 miles north of the main ferry port of Brodick.

This is a scenic village built around a bay with hills all around.

The image below is of the Lochranza Distillery, fornerly the Isle of Arran Distillery, the first building you see when entering Lochranza on the road up from Brodick.

The Distillery has a visitor centre, cafe, large range of whisky for sale, souvenirs, and gives tours with whisky tasting.

The Lochranza Caravan and Camping Site is next to Lochranza.

This is a quiet site at the head of the loch, has mountains all around, has a tea room and restaurant.

The Camp Site also runs the Lochranza Golf Course that stretches down towards the sea, with views over Lochranza Castle and to Kintyre.

The ruins of Lochranza Castle are close to the centre of the village. The earliest parts of the Castle were built from the mid 1200s for the MacSweens.

You can explore the castle inside and out, and read the many plaques that give information on its history, and how it was used.

The image below is of the inexpensive ferry that runs all day between Lochranza and the Kintyre peninsular. This is a good route to visit Campbeltown on Kintyre. You just wait in line to board, no bookings for the 30 minute crossing.
